There are arts events happening in the Triangle and North Carolina that are inclusive and accessible hosted by Arts Access and our partners, many of which are free or low cost. Please make sure to check back for updates.

August Events

  • Aug. 2: Make & Paint Butterfly Origami Sculpture
    Artist Alexander Roa will teach teens and adults how to use origami “wet folding” techniques to make a butterfly paper sculpture in this Arts Access North Carolina art class. Participants will also paint their butterflies using watercolor paints. The class is from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the North Carolina Museum of Art. All supplies and materials are included. Cost is $37.05. Register for the origami class.

  • Aug. 8 – 28: Prism Art Exhibition
    A prism can reveal the extraordinary, serve as a metaphor for transformation or a unique personal perspective. This Arts Access exhibition focuses on the viewpoints and experiences of more than 10 artists with disabilities around the Triangle with works ranging from portraits and landscapes to abstract pieces. The free art show will be on view at the Jobe House, 909 W. Morgan Street in Raleigh. Gallery hours are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The opening reception is Aug. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. Learn more about Prism.

  • August 19: Sensory-Friendly Playtime at Marbles Kids Museum
    Kids with disabilities and their families to experience the Marbles museum in a calmer, quieter environment from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Join Arts Access for a free art craft. Other vendors will also be on-site with other activities. The event is free but registration is required. View more information about the sensory-friendly playtime.

  • Aug. 20: Input Session for Accessible Public Art
    Join Raleigh Arts and artist team Wowhaus at the Jobe House (our coworking and shared gallery space) for an interactive community engagement event. The artists are looking for feedback as they begin developing public art for the new GoRaleigh/GoWake Access Transit Facility. This is an opportunity to share your ideas, experiences, and perspectives to help inspire artwork centered on universal design and accessibility. The event is from 5:30-7:30pm at Arts Access, 909 W. Morgan St. You will also get a chance to view our free exhibition “Prism” featuring the work of 14 artists from around the Triangle who have a disability.   • August 21: Arts Access Artist Link Project Pop Up Market
    Each month artists with disabilities, who are part of Arts Access’ Artist Link Project, share their work and have items for sale during Durham’s Third Friday at a pop up market. The market runs from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Marriott City Center, 201 Foster Street in Durham. Art for sale changes each month and can include everything from crochet animals, to painted light switch plates, geometric abstract prints and more.
