I have been writing without anyone telling me to since i was 12 years old. I have been writing seriously since age 14, and then seriously-Seriously since age 19-20. I am from Trenton, New Jersey and now live in Gaston, North Carolina. I have participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and only “won” once, but that is fine by me.
I am never without a book, notebook, my phone & headset, and pens (plural). Even when I go sit outside on the farm here in Gaston: bright, sunny, warm and/or with a nice breeze and my bottle of water with me, the bees humming, I sit outside with my music, notebook, pens, and at least one book. The muse comes when you do. I come consistently. Sure enough, so will she.
At the end of the day, writing, reading, and my music library are what centers me. I can tell when I have not had a moment to read, write, or listen to music because I get cranky and not fun to be around. So it is paramount that i read a book or write something, even if it is one poem, every day. I write because I must. Because if I did not I would feel unlike Essence at her core. To feel like Essence, I have to write and read and think about my writing.
Very recently, I began to write essays about my life experiences. I want to share those with you very soon.
